Ray Chen - Student Work


Course :  Ceramics Sculpture / Studio   410
The main goal of this course is to develop a creative understanding of ceramic sculptural forms and processes, exploration, aesthetic expression, visual communication and critical thinking. The course involves both theory and practice, and extends building technical and structural aspects.
 
Description of Assignment I: Proposal
Your work intent and practice for the semester; what you would like to achieve for the semester; write a clear statement of your working direction and be prepared to discuss with the faculty individually about it in the following week/next week
 
This project allows advanced ceramic students to work on developing a personal artistic expression in clay; each student has the option to self-direct your own projects with guidance discussed with the instructor, or assigned by the instructor; making sure preparing your meeting with the instructor.

Project - Spontaneity, Risk and Gesture
  

​Course : Ceramics Surfaces and Skins Fundamentals / Studio   310
 
Description of Assignment: This project investigates experimental processes that to be developed into distinctive surfaces on ceramics, and to a further understanding and development of how form suggests the surface and how surface can redefine the form and further develop critical thinking process. Most importantly, working with joy, freedom, be open and creative experiential mind with understanding to create possibilities, with guidance discussed with the instructor, or assigned by the instructor; making sure preparing your meeting with the instructor.
 
Project - Exaggeration :
Using clay and materials to create surfaces with consideration of their meaning and consequence and stretch the boundaries of languages.
